2nd Day

Hello once again. Its my second report for our 2nd day. Again, sorry for the formality. Today’s activity more or less is about server (at least we gain something today) Still using the same pattern as yesterday, my dad sent me n meet with Jack at the bus stop nearby n again waiting for kristy (seems both of us are punctual..haha. no offense kristy) I remember the three of us taking the lift to 5th floor with johnathan who came the same time with us. Again, upon entering the company..we write our name, arrival time (I’m pretty sure its around 7.58 am that time) and signature on the book (correction for the yesterday post, its not red. The red book is for the staff. Ours one is purple) Then, we headed inside to the same place where we sit couple of hours yesterday. To our surprise, there are four new faces (well, for us is yes, haven’t seen them yesterday) sit at the place. To make long story become short, four of them are UMS student who also doing their industrial training in Srikom. After a short introduction and shake hands sessions between us, we sat (again..haha)

After a while, one of the network engineer, Eric asked us if we want to join him to go the customer site to do some troubleshoot. Well, its not we I suppose to say...its both me and Jack actually (felt very pity and sorry for kristy as Eric can only bring two people with him..jgn ko marah aa kristy..haha) We went out from Srikom around 10 am and headed to Rasa Ria Resort which are the customer site Eric talking about. After half hour, we reach there. Then, we straightly headed to the server room located in the IT Department. We been told by Eric that the modem use for the wireless connection in that resort is down and that is why Eric is been called. It’s quit an experience for us to go the server room in a resort (well, you usually wont headed to that place if u go to a resort, ain’t it?)

After a short testing, Eric found out that the old modem serial port is burn or got problem. Oh yeah, just for the info..modem that been used for the wireless connection is Nomadix. Don’t ask me about the modem..i know nothing about it..the only thing i know, that particular modem is one of the many intelligence modem out there (i think)

Then, Eric replace the old modem with other modem, same model though…then, he start to configure the modem with the old configuration in the old modem. Then, for few hours after that, we just sat/stand/watch at Eric do the troubleshoot at the server room (I think got problem around that time, it seems the server are not reachable or something..Eric told us is maybe because of the proxy server..couldn’t give the details as we also quit confuse that time..haha) But it’s a good thing, we can observe the server room in close range. There are even few devices we haven’t see in UTeM like the CISCO firewall, fiberlogic or the load balancer, patch panel and the lease line. Our business in there finish around 1 plus and we go have our lunch. So, to make the long story become short again. We arrive at Srikom almost 3 pm. Then again, both of us headed inside and sat again on the chair. Then again, to my surprise..David (remember david, our supervisor) bring us (this time, kristy join the club..hehe) to visit Srikom’s server room. Wow, both me n Jack visit server room twice today. But the best part about this visit is where the server room located. Usually server room will be placed as ground level as possible to avoid disaster and some factors that I forgot. The server room is placed at the roof top. And even the way to go there is quite special. Remember in some movie where the rich guys always have their own lift to go to their special room or whatsoever. Its something like that, we have to take a small lift which amazingly the slowest lift I’ve ever been in my entire life. Then, we were shown to the server room. Then, David start explain to us about all related stuff about server room which I don’t understand almost any of it. The only part that I caught in my mind is the server rack is 19 inches wide that can fit in any brand of network devices and 3 hole is equal to 1 U or 1 unit. One more thing that amazes me is the cabling is put at the ceiling rather than under the floor and a camera that can monitor the server room including the temperature. Then, all of us headed back to Srikom. Its around 5 pm at that time. Finally, to make long story become short..we went back home around 5.38 pm with the same pattern as yesterday, write our signature in the purple book. I cursed the weather that time because its gonna rain. But eventually, I managed to go reach home before it start to rain..hehe.

That’s all the report for the second day. Roger n out.

P/S : The picture shows the broken Nomadix modem. The close up picture show the so called OS for the modem. That small thing cost around RM2k to RM3k
